State Commission on Arctic held regular session

Russian deputy prime minister Dmitri Rogozin devoted the State Commission session to Arctic region development.

The members of the state commission resumed the results of state policy in the Arctic in 2016. They also paid attention on expedition activities with the aim of implementing comprehensive scientific projects in the Arctic, including international cooperation and the plan for 2017, TASS reports.

The deputy prime minister repeatedly stated that Russia considers the Arctic zone exclusively as a platform for cooperation and will counter any attempts to fan tensions there. Russia’s choice is a civilized resolution of any disputes on the basis of international law, he added.

He also noted that the Russian government plans to implement 150 projects in the Arctic by 2030.

During the session the upcoming International Arctic Forum "Arctic ― Territory for Dialogue" that will be held in March 2017 in Arkhangelsk was announced. The forum will focus on considering strategic issues of developing tourism in the region.
